Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) FAQs

01. How do I know if I'm eligible?
Verify your qualification through the official government website or call the helpline at 1-833-537-4342 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. local time, Monday to Friday.
02. How do I access the CDCP? When can I get my benefit?
Seniors aged 65 and above, persons with a valid Disability Tax Credit Certificate, and children under the age of 18 who match the eligibility criteria can apply for the CDCP online. All remaining eligible Canadians will be able to apply online by 2025. Individuals who qualify will receive a welcome package from Sun Life that includes a member card, co-payment information, and the start date for when their oral health care services will be covered under the CDCP. Your coverage will begin when your application is processed and you enroll in the CDCP. Each individual's coverage begins on a different date.
03. What is a co-payment?
A co-payment is the portion of the CDCP charges that the CDCP does not cover and must be paid by the CDCP client to the oral health provider. The co-payment depends on the CDCP client's modified household net income.
04. Could there be any additional charges for services rendered to a CDCP eligible client?
The fees set by the CDCP for services may differ from what the oral health provider charges. The CDCP qualified patient could incur extra expenses besides the co-payment if the services received cost more than what the CDCP will pay the oral health provider. Dental care providers are required to notify all patients of any extra fees not included in their CDCP coverage prior to providing treatment.
05. My dentist is not participating in the CDCP. Can they still treat me?
Your dentist can still offer you the same quality of care and treatment, but the CDCP will not cover the expenses.
